What If You Could Slow Your Child’s myopia?

You can. FDA approved myopia management, including overnight orthokeratology, helps slow myopia progression while your child simply sleeps. Vision by Amel builds the plan and monitors every step.

For Parents

Nearsightedness Does Not Have To win

Every year your child’s glasses get stronger, and every year you wonder where it ends. Here is what most parents are never told. Myopia progression can be slowed. The FDA has approved myopia management approaches for exactly this purpose, and Vision by Amel brings them to families across Las Vegas.

Myopia control matters beyond thick lenses. Higher myopia raises lifetime risk for serious eye disease, so slowing progression in childhood is preventive eye care at its purest. Few preventative measures pay off for as many decades.

Family history, screen time and too few outdoor activities all push myopia along. A pediatric optometry visit tells you where your child stands, and a management plan tells you what to do about it.

How It Works

Overnight Lenses, Daytime freedom

Baseline Exam

A pediatric eye exam maps your child’s current prescription, eye health and genetic factors like family history, along with daily habits.

The Plan

Dr. Amel walks you through the treatment options and recommends the right myopia management approach for your child. For many families that is overnight orthokeratology, gently reshaping lenses worn during sleep.

Ortho-K Fitting

Your child wears the custom lenses at night and takes them out in the morning. The payoff: clear daytime vision with no glasses and no daytime contact lens wear at school or sports.

Monitoring

Regular vision screening visits track myopia progression, confirm healthy wear and adjust the plan as your child grows.

The Science

What Is Actually Happening Inside a Nearsighted eye?

Myopia is a shape problem. A nearsighted eye has grown slightly too long from front to back, so light focuses just short of the retina and distance turns to blur. Each year the eye elongates a little more, the prescription climbs, and the glasses get thicker. That elongation, not the blur, is what myopia management targets.

Overnight orthokeratology works through gentle geometry. A custom rigid lens, worn only during sleep, reshapes the thin outer layer of the cornea by microns. By morning the cornea focuses light correctly on its own, which gives your child clear daytime vision without glasses. The same reshaped profile changes how light lands across the retina in a way researchers associate with slower elongation.

The effect on the cornea is temporary and reversible. Skip the lenses for a few nights and the cornea drifts back to its original shape, which is exactly why consistent wear and scheduled monitoring visits are part of every plan we build.

FAQ

Questions, Answered

Every Question We Hear →

What is orthokeratology?

Orthokeratology, or ortho-k, is vision correction that works while your child sleeps, using custom overnight lenses that gently reshape the front surface of the eye. Your child sees clearly all day without glasses or daytime contacts, and the approach doubles as myopia control.

At what age should myopia management start?

In children’s eye care, the earlier progression is caught, the more future nearsightedness you can prevent. If your child’s prescription is climbing year over year, book a consultation now rather than waiting.

Is ortho-k safe for children?

Fitted and monitored properly by a certified specialist, ortho-k holds a strong safety record across clinical studies. Dr. Amel is NCLE certified and follows every child closely with scheduled checkups, the way a specialized clinic should.

Does screen time really affect myopia?

Research links digital eye strain, heavy near work and limited outdoor activity with faster myopia progression. More daylight time and smart screen habits are preventive measures that support any plan we build.

Does insurance help cover myopia management?

Coverage varies by plan, and the team checks yours before you commit to anything. Call (702) 858-4362 and we will verify your benefits and explain your real costs up front.
